How to delete photographs from library

I'm using WMP 12 and have removed all picture folders from the library as I
use Photoshop Bridge. That left thousands of images still in the library.
I selected them and did a delete from library. However they are still
there and will open in Media Player if I click on them. I restarted Media
Player and they are still there. How do I delete these from the Library?

UPDATE: I stopped the Windows Media player network services and disabled
it. I then deleted all the images after answering the library only or
library and disk question and restarted. Guess what, the images are STILL
in my library.

How do I fix this?
